Accessibility at The Courthouse

Rural Arts is committed to ensuring that we’re as accessible as possible. If you use Easy Read, there is a guide available here.

We’ve got a variety of measures in place, such as step-free access throughout the building, including a lift to our first floor. The Courthouse is fitted with a Hearing Loop for customers who use hearing aids. Staff at Rural Arts are trained as Dementia Friends.

There is a video tour of The Courthouse available to view here. This includes a walkthrough of our Shop, The Courtroom, our Changing Place toilet, café, lift, studio and Meeting Room 1. We also have a smaller Meeting Room, which you can view details of here.

The Courthouse has an accessible Changing Place toilet. This toilet is designed for those with learning disabilities, those with conditions which affect movement, people with head or spinal injuries, people who are living with a stroke as well as older people who require assistance.

Our Changing Place facility includes the following:

  • A height-adjustable, adult-sized changing bench
  • A ceiling track hoist system
  • Space for the disabled person and up to two assistants
  • A peninsular toilet with space for assistants
  • A wide paper roll
  • A large washbasin

It is free if you would like your carer to attend a performance, screening or workshop with you. However, if your carer would like to participate in a workshop they would be required to also purchase a space.

We can also offer a Quiet Space during all of our events. We’re grateful if you are able to let us know in advance if you need this space by calling 01845 526 536 or emailing admin@ruralarts.org

Please note, due to the range of activities we host, there is not one consistent space we’re able to offer as a Quiet Space. This means you may be in a different room on one day to the space you used last as a Quiet Space.

We also provide free sanitary items, nappies and nappy bags in our bathrooms.

We have a blue badge parking available at the rear of The Courthouse. We’re grateful if you are able to let us know in advance if you need this space by calling 01845 526 536 or emailing admin@ruralarts.org

To the right is our Changing Place at Rural Arts. Located on the ground floor of the building.
