Advanced’ Hand-building – 3-Day Surface Decoration Course with Rebecca Appleby

All materials are provided. Just bring lots of enthusiasm – and perhaps an apron as clay work can be messy!
This 3 day intensive introduction to surface decoration delivered by renowned artist Rebecca Appleby will focus on qualities of mark making, colour, application and texture in clay. Each student will be given the opportunity to create clay vessels on which to practise new decorative skills and techniques.She will discuss various techniques and applications of ceramic media and the most successful stages to apply the various different layers.Practical work is demonstration-led and tailored, as much as is possible, to the needs of the individuals. Guidance and help is given throughout.T his exciting course is only suitable for more confident artist. Class sizes are limited, to ensure individual guidance & a productive group dynamic.
The courses is focused on surface and texture with slips, underglaze and oxide but there is some flexibility on ideas and outcome.You will be amazed at how versatile the techniques can be and at the dramatic surface effects that can be created in a relatively small space of time.
The courses are very much designed to send you away with proudly finished pieces of decorated sculptural work and feeling very much inspired and confident to go back to your own studios/classes, armed with new ideas & techniques to try.

Other Info:

  • Workshops will take place on Thursday 5th, Friday 6th, and Saturday 7th of September.
  • Please allow  4 weeks for your ceramics to be fired.
  • When booking ensure that you give us your correct contact details so we are able to let you know when your work is ready for collection.
  • A pre-order form will be available at your session should you wish to buy lunch in our cafe during your workshop.
Those who have had plenty of experience with ceramics but want to improve their skills.

  • We don’t issue physical tickets – just bring your email confirmation or order reference along
  • If The Courthouse opens before your workshop starts, you’re welcome to browse our artisan shop – maybe we stock the artist running the workshop!
  • You’re welcome to grab a coffee of a snack from our friendly café and take it through into the workshop with you
  • If you have any access requirements, let us know.
  • There is no parking at The Courthouse except for Blue Badge holders who must let us know they will be needing the space
