Decorative Ceramic Birds

Date: Friday, July 21, 2023
Time: 10am - 3pm
Venue: The Courthouse
Please bring photos, images or objects that remind you of pivotal moments in your life.

Learn surface decoration techniques for clay and design whimsical Ceramic Bird Plaques to decorate your walls.

During this ceramics workshop, you will start off with illustrating and designing your whimsical and illustrative birds. You will then roll out clay into slabs and transfer the design onto the clay.

Your tutor Michelle, will guide you on various techniques to use for surface decoration, which you will then apply to your ceramic birds. You will allow the green-ware to become leather-hard to then apply colourful under-glazes to finish your design.

You will be guided by Michelle Wade; a graphic designer (BA Hon) and illustrator working in pen & ink & watercolours inspired by the natural world. Michelle will be displaying her 2-D artworks as our October artist of the month. She also creates ceramic sculptural art with a strong narrative around animals and plants.

Michelle was a senior university lecturer in graphic design for six years and now delivers many workshops for adults and children in ceramics, illustration, needle-felting, printmaking and typography.
