Art Essentials: Oil Painting

Date: Monday, January 15, 2024
Ends: Monday, February 19, 2024
Time: 2pm - 4pm
Duration: 6 weeks
Venue: The Courthouse
All materials are provided. Just bring lots of enthusiasm – and perhaps an apron as oil painting can be messy!

Develop your own visual language by learning how to mix colours, manipulate oil paints and create compositions.

Jennifer will guide you through every stage of drawing and painting from direct observation, enabling you to develop your own visual language.

The course will introduce you to colour mixing, suitable surfaces and getting used to manipulating oil paint. You will be taught how to make colour judgements and put a composition together. Through a series of painting projects those skill will be reinforced and will give you the confidence needed to enjoy and to get the most out of oil painting.

The course is led by artist Jennifer Cottis who has taught oil painting courses for adults for several years.

Jennifer’s drawings, paintings and ceramic sculptures have been exhibited in private and major public galleries across the country including the Mall Galleries London, the New Art Exchange Nottingham and the Usher Gallery Lincoln. She has had solo exhibitions and won several prizes and her work is in private collections in England and the USA.

Jennifer was educated at the Central School of Art and Design in London and won 2 RSA bursaries for design.
