Join renowned Yorkshire vet Peter Wright for an entertaining and fascinating afternoon as he shares stories from a remarkable career in veterinary medicine.
Best known for his appearances on The Yorkshire Vet, Peter has a unique connection to one of the most famous names in veterinary history — James Herriot. Peter worked alongside Alf Wight, the real-life vet behind the James Herriot books, early in his veterinary career and learned his profession in the very same Yorkshire practice where Herriot worked.
During this special one-hour event, Peter will take audiences behind the scenes of his life as a rural vet, sharing personal memories of Alf Wight, heart-warming stories, amusing experiences and insights into the realities of working with animals and their owners.
With his warmth, humour and trademark Yorkshire character, Peter offers a rare opportunity to hear first-hand what life was really like in the veterinary world of James Herriot and how that world has evolved over the decades.

“I am very lucky to have been born in Thirsk and as a veterinary surgeon spent most of my working life in the town. I have witnessed first-hand the transformation of our old Veterinary Practice in Kirkgate into “The World of James Herriot” a world class visitor attraction following our move to Skeldale Veterinary Centre in 1996. More recently I have been very involved in making a long standing documentary series called “The Yorkshire Vet”. I will explore the interrelationship between The Yorkshire Vet, the life and work of James Herriot as well as both the original 1970s Series of “All Creatures Great and Small’ and its successful remake in 2020.”
