The Colour Of Life: Ann Hutchings (Neé Viles)

Start: Saturday, June 5, 2021
Ends: Saturday, June 12, 2021

1940-2020 In Memoriam

Ann was born in Ilford, Essex and attended Wanstead County High School. Aged 19 she became a Student at Bath Academy of Art (known internationally as Corsham). At that time, this was one of three specialist colleges in the UK for Art Teacher training but unique by combining staff and studios with the National Diploma in Design (NDD).

After completing her Certificate in Education, Ann was selected for a post graduate course at Corsham. Her principal tutors included the late Sir Howard Hodgkin and the late Gillian Ayers.
Ann developed her work by combining photographic images to influence drawings and collage prior to constructing her oil paintings on canvas or board. This exhibition concentrates largely on her work from the 1960’s and in the early 1980’s when a group of art teachers were encouraged to develop their ideas at Cleveland College of Art.
