De Mowbray songbook exhibition 1

De Mowbray Songbook

Start: Tuesday, August 10, 2021
Ends: Saturday, August 14, 2021

A communion between music and visual art

Open 10am-4pm, free entry

The ‘De Mowbray Songbook’ is originally a collection of short musical compositions by award-winning composer Benjamin Ellin. Written at the start of the UK lockdown in 2020, each piece is a short snapshot of Ellin’s new surroundings of Thirsk, North Yorkshire within a world that had changed so completely.

A community of local and regional artists, working in different mediums have since signed up to create their own response to a chosen track from the songbook without knowing the background, name or inspiration for the piece.

This new exhibition will be a communion of visual art and recorded music as well as a celebration of community; originally separated through Covid but united in creativity.

(Visitors will be able to listen to the music at the exhibition. MP3 players will be available, but visitors are welcome to bring their own digital devices and earphones where possible.)
