“Sometimes people wish the world around them was transparent, letting everyone see everything for what it is. Or sometimes they wish people could see inside them, whether it be spiritually or physically. Wouldn’t that make a doctor’s visit easier? As someone with an invisible condition, I believe my life would be easier if others could see what is going on inside. And so, the work I am currently making is dedicated to the idea of bringing metaphorical explanations into a physical form.”
“In the terms of art culture the topic of discussion has changed from neoclassical into contemporary more open focus on more niche markets, artist now more freely able to make for themselves then the buyer. We now have the topic of body image and health that no longer conform to the social pinnacles of the era. All body’s are beautiful and untouchables now allowed to express themselves rather then being shunned and punished for attributes they themselves can not control. With this most recent body of work “Phases”, we focus on the cycle of wellness or repeating pattern of coping with medication for my condition (Crohn’s Disease) and how I mentally feel with the everyday shifts and challenges that comes along side with such a thing. The clarity and quality that comes with using clear blown glass allows me to be literally and figuratively transparent with the audience.”
