A Taste of Art: Ocean Reef Ceramics

With all materials included and each workshop suitable for beginners, our Wednesday morning Taste Of… sessions give the perfect introduction to a range of artistic styles and techniques.

Take inspiration from the unique variety of coral and organisms found in the ocean’s reefs, to create your very own starfish, corals, shells and more! Within this workshop, you will explore a various number of ceramic techniques including pinch pot forming, joining using slip and using different tools to adapt the shape of your ceramic object. You will have the option to decorate you shells using sea glass to melt in the kiln. Glazing and finishing techniques will also be explored using a wide variation of colours and techniques. You will work from observing organic forms and take inspiration from contemporary ceramic artists.

Suitable For: This workshop is suitable for all abilities, including those with no ceramics experience.

  • Your ceramic form will be fired in our kiln and will be ready for collection up to 2 – 3 weeks after your workshop.
  • Please ensure that you give us your correct contact details so we are able to email you when your work is ready for collection.

  • If The Courthouse opens before your workshop starts, you’re welcome to browse our artisan shop – maybe we stock the artist running the workshop!
  • You’re welcome to grab a coffee of a snack from our friendly café and take it through into the workshop with you
  • If you have any access requirements, let us know.
  • There is no parking at The Courthouse except for Blue Badge holders who must let us know they will be needing the space
