Within this workshop you will be introduced to stitched (Nui) Shibori. CarolAnn will guide you through the process of using the running stitch combined with folding techniques to create beautiful patterns onto fabric. Traditional Indigo dye will be used to colour the pieces of stitched fabric. Indigo is one of the oldest dyes to be used for textile dyeing and printing, the colour has a rich historical significance in many Asian countries, such as India and Japan but Indigo pigment also was known to ancient civilizations in Mesopotamia, Egypt, Britain, Mesoamerica, Peru, Iran and Africa.

Slow Textiles stitching is a methodical process but because of this is also very therapeutic. Simple running stitch will be used to create the patterns in the fabric and after the fabric has been rinsed and dried, CarolAnn will guide you through the techniques involved in putting together a table runner made up of hexagons.

Some basic knowledge of sewing is required for this workshop. Discovering new techniques take's time, therefore further finishing off will be required after the workshop. Detailed instructions, handout's and equipment will be provided to assist you in doing so.
Please note: Clothing is at risk of staining so please dress appropriately in an apron. Disposable gloves will be provided, however, we recommend bringing rubber gloves with you.
We suggest measuring the table that the runner will be going onto so you are aware of how much fabric will be needed.
If you wish to bring some old linen's with you, please ensure that they are washed and ironed prior to attending the workshop.
Please note: We don't issue physical tickets. Please use your email order confirmation as proof of purchase.

We want your day with us to be relaxed, offering you a bit of escapism and the chance to get to know like-minded people (plus there’s the bonus of getting to take something you have lovingly made home with you!).

Get to know others in the group whilst enjoying a drink in the Rural Arts Café before heading through to the workshop to start getting creative! The Café will be open throughout the day for you to get drinks and delicious lunches and cakes. Visit the café page to view our menu.
