Relief Printing (6th April)

Relief Printing (6th April)

The Old Courthouse Thirsk
Saturday 6th April

(£55 + £5 Materials)

Workshop delivered by printmaker and co-facilitator of our weekly open printmaking studio, Graham Copping.
The workshop is aimed at beginners and those wishing to improve their relief printing skills.
The print is made from a block, sheet or matrix (wood, linoleum, plastic etc) with the areas that are to be blank cut away with fine cutting tools. The great thing about linocut printing is you don’t need a printing press - you really can do it at home.
This workshop will introduce you to the process of creating a design through to cutting and printing.
Multiple colour prints can be achieved in two main ways. Firstly, individual blocks can be cut for each area of colour. Alternatively, you can use the reduction method – cutting away from a single piece of block one stage at a time. Alternative techniques for adding texture and colour will also be demonstrated.
Please bring an A5 size drawing or an idea of a design with you for best results. The tutor will be able to demonstrate image transfer techniques to translate this into a print.
A range of artists work will be available for inspiration and the tutor Graham will advise on where to buy equipment and materials.
All equipment, materials and paper will be provided. Please bring an apron.
Please note: We don't issue physical tickets. Please use your email confirmation as proof of purchase.
Saturday 6th April (10am - 4pm) Tickets Available: 9
Ticket(s) 60.00

Workshops at Rural Arts give you the opportunity to learn or develop an artistic skill in a relaxed, creative environment and are all suitable for beginners. Our tutors are friendly, passionate and have lots of experience and knowledge to share with you. We want your day with us to be relaxed, offering you a bit of escapism and the chance to get to know like-minded people (plus there’s the bonus of getting to take something you have lovingly made home with you!).

Get to know others in the group whilst enjoying a drink in the Rural Arts Café before heading through to the workshop to start getting creative! The Café will be open throughout the day for you to get drinks and delicious lunches and cakes. Visit the café page to view our menu.
