Ceramic Heads (Sat 26th Sep)

The Old Courthouse Thirsk
Saturday 26th September
(£55 + £10 materials)

Sculpt a small mythical, animal or human head in clay - or book onto both days to work on a larger head.

In this workshop you will learn to sculpt a small head in clay. If you wish to focus on creating a larger head, it is encouraged you book onto our Ceramic Head workshop the following day on Sunday 27th September. The course focuses on sculpting human heads, but you can sculpt mythical or animal heads if you prefer. If you wish to achieve a portrait or likeness please bring photographs as a point of reference. By the end of the session you will have created your very own clay head, which after approximately six weeks - allowing for drying and kiln firing - will be ready for collection. During the course, various finishing techniques will be discussed for you to apply at home.

The workshop is led by artist Kay Latto, who works from her studio in Yorkshire. Kay has studied at Putney School of Art and Harrogate College and exhibited recently with North Yorkshire Open Studios. Kay was selected in 2018 for the Royal Academy 250th Summer Exhibition where she exhibited her Grayson Perry sculpture.

Our tutors are friendly, passionate and have lots of experience and knowledge to share with you. We want your day with us to be relaxed, offering you a bit of escapism and the chance to get to know like-minded people (plus there’s the bonus of getting to take something you have lovingly made home with you!).

Get to know others in the group whilst enjoying a drink in the Rural Arts Café before heading through to the workshop to start getting creative! The Café will be open throughout the day for you to get drinks and delicious lunches and cakes. Visit the café page to view our menu.
