Ceramic Mantel Clocks

Fiona Mazza
The Courthouse Thirsk
Saturday 20th January

Within this workshop you will be using clay to hand build your own mantel style clock. Professional ceramic artist Fiona Mazza will guide you through the process of slab rolling, hand building, joining together using slip and using different methods of decoration. Finishing techniques will be demonstrated and the chance to decorate your clock using a selection of under glazes and coloured slips.

This workshop is suitable for all abilities, including those who are new to ceramics.

Fiona Mazza is a Yorkshire based ceramic artist who specialises in Raku. After falling in love with ceramics over 20 years ago she has been a lecturer and currently is a technician and tutor at Harrogate College. Her practice is inspired by the beautiful markings found on butterfly wings where she hand-builds, slip casts or hand carves vessels which are then coloured and fired outside in her own hand built Raku kiln. Elements of smoke and crackle are common elements to her work, which is also displayed in our Courthouse Gallery throughout the year.

All materials and equipment will be provided.

Please note: Your clock will be fired in our kiln at Rural Arts and will be ready for collection up to 2 weeks after your workshop. Please ensure that you give us your correct contact details so we are able to email you when your work is ready for collection.
