Embroidered Botanical Mandalas

The Courthouse Thirsk
Saturday 15th June

(£35 + £5 Materials)

In this workshop you will be working towards creating a 3D floral textile piece. You will explore techniques and experiment with unconventional materials including plastic straws, recycled packaging appliqué, parcel ribbon flowers and hand dyed sponges to create your own hand embroidered flowers. You will hand cut sequins to create petals and combine them in a creative manner to create your hoop art design.

The workshop will be led by embroidery artist Jessica Grady, who is originally from North Yorkshire but now works from her studio in Leeds. Jessica uses traditional hand embroidery techniques, hand dyeing and printing whilst utilising mixed media and recycled materials to create her embellished surfaces.

All materials and tools are provided. You will take an embroidery hoop home with you after the workshop to frame your textile art piece.

Workshops at Rural Arts give you the opportunity to learn or develop an artistic skill in a relaxed, creative environment and are all suitable for beginners. Our tutors are friendly, passionate and have lots of experience and knowledge to share with you. We want your day with us to be relaxed, offering you a bit of escapism and the chance to get to know like-minded people (plus there’s the bonus of getting to take something you have lovingly made home with you!).

Get to know others in the group whilst enjoying a drink in the Rural Arts Café before heading through to the workshop to start getting creative! The Café will be open throughout the day for you to get drinks and delicious lunches and cakes. Visit the café page to view our menu.

Please bring an apron.
