The Courthouse Thirsk
Friday 21st September

Call Rural Arts on 01845 526536 for more information

Join us for a sharing day at the Courthouse in Thirsk to celebrate Rural Arts’ project ‘Art On Your Doorstep’. This 2 year project is aimed at increasing participation of Over 75s in our creative programme and exploring ‘doorstep’ delivery to isolated rural communities.

The day will also include lunch and refreshments.

Book and have a go at lots of art and music activities, including ceramics and printmaking workshops, as well as making music with percussive Bamboo Tamboo instruments.

Visit our Art Cafe exhibition, showcasing work created by our project participants.

Enjoy relaxed performances with classic and popular music hits from the past with MAIA, and a mix of flamenco, contemporary and Scottish dance by Jenni Wren of Slanjayvah Danza.

We also have a presentation by Professor Emma Wood from Leeds Beckett University who will speak about her recent research project into the impact arts can have on the wellbeing of older people. Kate Duncan from City Arts in Nottingham, who will demonstrate the 'Armchair Gallery' app which allows digital (virtual) access to arts and cultural venues for older people whose circumstances do not allow for physical visits.

Comments from participants of Art On Your Doorstep:

I have happier thoughts, and have something to look forward to; I like being appreciated. I am more motivated to get out and about. My greatest joy is sharing my love for music. I am feeling more involved, with Rural Arts, with the village and with my daughter and am feeling better about life, especially in the last few weeks.  Norman, aged 96.

Rural Arts has provided me with the opportunity and inspiration to find a direction for my fledgling art interest.  Advancing years, 84, and now living alone means it is sometimes difficult to develop new contacts and interests.  At Rural Arts I have been able to sample a wide variety of art disciplines in very friendly and stimulating surroundings to the point where I now have greater confidence to explore and pursue new experiences. The future is still exciting!”  Geoffrey, aged 84

Please note: All day tickets include all of the above activities. Due to capacity, half-day tickets will include a selection of activities that will be allocated. Scroll down for a full outline of the day.
