In this workshop you will be working in acrylic paint to explore abstract compositions of trees and landscapes. Artist Jane Burnley will show you how to prime your own canvas boards whilst encouraging you to select a colour pallet to use in your art work. She is keen to share with you her working process of applying colour and shape to canvas whilst using sgraffito techniques to reveal hidden layers underneath. You will be guided through the process of combining oil pastels and acrylic paint together in this workshop to discover a different kind of painter in yourself. 

All materials and tools will be provided, In this workshop you will be working directly onto pieces of MDF board. 

Artist Jane Burnley is currently based in Thirsk and took part in the North Yorkshire Open Studios this year. Jane comes from a graphic design background but moved into fine art in the late 90s. She works quickly and intuitively in acrylics and oil pastels and works mainly to create abstract landscapes inspired by her surroundings of the Yorkshire Dales. Jane also enjoys working with Silver and Polymer Clay to create beautiful pieces of Jewellery which are sold in our Gallery.

Workshops at Rural Arts give you the opportunity to learn or develop an artistic skill in a relaxed, creative environment and are all suitable for beginners. Our tutors are friendly, passionate and have lots of experience and knowledge to share with you. We want your day with us to be relaxed, offering you a bit of escapism and the chance to get to know like-minded people (plus there’s the bonus of getting to take something you have lovingly made home with you!).
