A Rural Review 2016: Week 22!

Hello one and all and welcome back to ‘A Rural Review’.  This week has been dominated, quite rightly, by the outstanding British success in Rio, and this success has also meant this week has been about people getting incredibly emotionally invested in obscure sports they know little about (who knew Dressage could stir up such emotion am I right?) Still here at Rural Arts we have still managed to find time in between tense viewings of the Slalom Canoeing, Taekwondo and Women’s 3m synchro to put on a whole host of exciting activities – let’s talk about them shall we?!

Vanessa Kisuule – FRESH Performance

Come back soon Vanessa!

A Packed Venue? Check. Funny, thoughtful and brilliant poems? Check. A hugely satisfied audience? Check – this is a checklist you will always need when you have had Vanessa Kisuule at your venue! On Thursday our FRESH season culminated in a night of performance poetry – and boy was it a strong note to finish on. This was Vanessa’s second year performing as part of our FRESH season and once again, she blew the audience away with her work. It is always a pleasure to have her perform and finish this brilliant FRESH season on a high – and make sure you keep you eyes peeled for what other exciting events we have in the future.

New Brochures!
Look how pretty these are!
Speaking of keeping your eyes peeled for events – it is now even easier to do just that with the delivery of not one, but two brand new brochures!  One is for all activities that take place at our Courthouse venue in Thirsk whilst the September also marks the start of our  ON Tour season – where we take performance to community venues all across the region. These brochures are in our Courthouse and will soon be delivered all over the region – so whether you want some information on performances, workshops, art clubs, exhibitions… make sure you give it a peruse!

Market Stall
With  the release of the aforementioned brochures (gosh this section has fit together well hasn’t it?) we decided to have a new season launch in Thirsk Market Place. Braving the classic British weather – Rural Arts staff members stepped out to the streets of Thirsk delivering brochures and free cake to the wind battered Thirsk residents. It was a great (if blustery!) day, and we want to say a bug thank you to everyone, who took a brochure, grabbed some cake and stopped for a chat – it made the wind and the rain totally worth it!

What’s coming up

Cousin Jones
Get your tickets now!
As we mentioned, September signals the start of the ON Tour season, and Saturday the 10th  can’t come fast enough, with the uniquely energising dynamic duo most regularly known as Cousin Jones kicking us off in Pickering. Featuring James Hickman (guitar/vocals) and Sarah Barnwell (violin), Cousin Jones creates Gypsy music of Europe inspired melody, as well as adding swing and passion to the amazing sound they create. James’s highflying voice and jumping guitar playing tributes Sarah’s stunning free flowing violin playing perfectly. Get ahead of the game and book your tickets now as we are sure they will fly off the shelves quicker than Laura Trott can pedal around the velodrome. To book click HERE.

Raku Workshop
Come to the workshop and you could come home with this!
On the 2nd September, Fiona Mazza brings her incredibly popular Raku Workshop back to The Courthouse. In this 2 day workshop, you will design and make your own hand built ceramic piece, which could be a sculpture or for use practically in your home. If you fancy having an experiment with texture or exploring glazing methods – this is the workshop for you! To find out more, and book a place click HERE
