A Rural Review 2016: Week 15!

Yes we are back, and with a brand spanking new banner to boot! This banner is just the tip of the iceberg for an exciting new development of our blog – which we can’t wait to tell you all about this week. In fact, it is just one of the many exciting things that have happened at Rural Arts over the last 7 days and with next week being an extra special one for us at The Courthouse, it promises to be a jam-packed filled post. Without further ado let’s kick off with…

What’s been happening

Brighton Fringe
Still tickets available!

As I am sure you will know, one of Rural Arts key activities is the ON Tour scheme, which is the rural touring scheme for North Yorkshire and East Cleveland. Running for over 20 years, the reason the scheme has been so successful for so long is that the performances are always such so high quality (this is based on audience and promoter feedback, not our own evaluation of the work!) What this means is that we are always on the look out for new exciting shows to go and see to improve our program. This week Sophie Backhouse, our ON Tour manager, travelled to the Brighton to scour the  Frigne that has been taking place this year, to find some new shows. Of her experience of the fringe, Sophie said :

“This was a fanatastic experience. The Fringe was full of exciting new work and gave me loads of ideas for the new program. In particular I loved Confessions of a Red-headed coffee shop girl and Bane 2. I just want to say a big thank you for to the NRTF and Brighton Fringe for helping me with this trip – I can’t wait to see some of the work at The Courthouse or on the ON Tour program!”

Speaking of ON Tour, you can still catch Alison Neil’s fabulous Mrs Beeton, My Sister at Burniston & Cloughton and Greatham tonight or tomorrow. It was a fantastic night in Terrington yesterday and this is a show you do not want to miss out on: to buy tickets click HERE

A Rural Review Update- Mailing List
Sign up in the bottom right corner!
Our brand is expanding! Yes, soon what started as a modest weekly blog series will be a global superpower such as Nike, Apple or Google (maybe we are getting a bit ahead of ourselves…) Here at Rural Arts we are always for looking for new and better ways to communicate with you, and with the help of our talented graphic designer, we will now be sending out weekly ‘Rural Review’ e-mails! These will follow the same basic structure of these blog posts, but with a more visual focus (basically this but with less of the silly writing…) and we are all very excited about this new development. To sign up to our mailing list, simply go to our website by clicking HERE and then scroll to the bottom of the page to sign up: both the blog and the e-mail complement each other so our completely unbiased advice is that you read both….

Charity Stall: Come and see us!
Yes we are that this is a bit of a cheat because it hasn’t happened yet, but it is technically happening this week so we think it counts! This Saturday we will be ventuing out of the warm comfort of The Courthouse and onto the streets of Thirsk, all so that we can get to know you, our loyal customers, and those who maybe visit us less. We have a stall on the market, where 3 enthusiastic staff members will be conducting surveys about your opinions of Rural Arts, so we can get to know you better, and make sure what we are offering is what you want. We will be on the charity stall from 9am throughout the day so if you are around please do stop by, there may even be cakes and prizes if you do…
Come and join the fun!

What’s coming up

Half-term workshops: Alice in Wonderland
Add caption
The table has been set, the tea has been poured and the cakes are in the oven, all we need now is some guests to arrive… Yes next week on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday we are fully embracing all things Wonderland, and judging by the amount of props we have it is set to be a truly magical week! We have craft workshops in the morning making tea cups, hats and other wonderland accessories, and then our very own Mad Hatter and some of his most well-known friends are hosting a very special tea party in the afternoon, with the cake decorating, eating and some all round silliness on the menu. Tickets for these have been going ticket and fast, and so we recommend that you reserve your tickets to either of these events HERE. See you down the rabbit hole..

Alaska by Cheryl Martin
It really is a beautiful show..
Our FRESH season is returning in June and it is returning with a bang. Cheryl Martin’s amazing show Alaska is a warm funny and honest look at her own personal experiences, based on her award winning poetry collection. If that wasn’t enough, because this show is a part of our ‘FRESH’ performance season, there is no set fee for the show, you can simply turn and pay what you think or what you can afford. This show is just one part of a nationwide show that Cheryl is doing, and is touring to some prestigious venues including The Albany in London and Contact Manchester, so we are pretty darn excited we have managed to get Alaska to our venue! To reserve your ticket to her show on the 16th June, which you seriously should because it’s amazing, then please click HERE

Cyanotype Workshop
Our one-off workshops are always popular here at Rural Arts, and this one is no exception! This workshop will enable you to experiment making creative photograms from natural materials or design and transfer drawings onto acetate using natural sunlight to expose prepared paper or fabric and water to develop the print. It is an all day workshop and takes place both indoors and outdoors, so lets hope the good old British Weather holds up!) The results for these workshops are always incredible and we only have a couple of places left, so move fast and snap one up! (Click HERE to get snapping)
This is the sort of thing you could be making if you sign up!

And with that, we will round off this week. Thank you very much for reading, and we will see you next week!
