Children’s ON Tour production is a big hit in Long Newton village Hall!

Fiddlesticks
The Wilson Centre, Long Newton
Saturday 26th November
On Saturday Garlic Theatre performed Fiddlesticks at the Wilson Centre in Long Newton, bringing a performance filled with music and magic.
Appearing as part of the Autumn On Tour programme Iklooshar Malara started the day with a puppet workshop, where children and adults alike had a chance to try their hand at making shadow puppets before bringing them to life on the light screen.
In the afternoon Iklooshar helped Fiddlesticks tell his spellbinding story about travelling through a world of music searching for Violinka, while escaping the strict, ordered authority of the music teacher Metronomous.
This is a world where music acts as a kind of alchemy, transforming sheet music into birds, treble clefs into keys and violin cases into boats.
The children were fascinated throughout, especially when the music appeared on the light screen, with more than one young member of the audience asking their parents excitedly,  “How’s she doing that?”
The puppets themselves are imaginative and mischievous. The children in the audience will never look at a music room in the same way again!
After the performance Iklooshar took the time to show the children the puppets, with Violinka meeting one affectionate teddy bear nose to nose.
Fiddlesticks is a professionally performed show that takes the audience on an inspiring trip into a tuneful otherworld, helping them see music is about expression and performance rather than just order and structure.
