A Taste of Art: Mixed Media Flowers and Cacti Collage

The Old Courthouse Thirsk
Wednesday 11th September

With all materials included and each workshop suitable for beginners, our Wednesday morning Taste Of... sessions give the perfect introduction to a range of artistic styles and techniques.

Mixed Media collage combines an assortment of materials, mediums and techniques. Within this workshop we will be combining, paint, papercutting, textiles and stitch, together with found objects, to explore the process of collecting, combining and collaging these mediums to create a mixed media piece.

We will be papercutting our own patterned paper created in the workshop, stitching pressed flowers and discarded textiles together with other personal objects and assorted papers, as well as learning experimental painting techniques such as sgraffito and wax resist. This workshop aims to inspire you to discover this experiemental process for yourself, with guidance from a tutor.

Suitable For: All abilities.

  • Please feel free to bring any pressed flowers, fabrics, found objects such as feathers, buttons, train tickets, photographs, newspaper clippings that you would like to use.
  • A large selection of these will also be available and there is no requirement to bring your own

'Taste of Art' workshops are creative sessions that are friendly, informal and good fun and aim to provide an introduction to a technique or art form. Lasting an hour and a half they are run by qualified tutors and artists and aim to give you an insight into a craft and inspire you to do more.

You don't have to be a creative person to take part as the sessions are aimed at all levels and the focus is on experimentation. Most of our sessions use materials and equipment that are accessible and low cost and we always try to provide ceramic activities that utilise our kiln.

'Taste Of Art' sessions will provide you with an opportunity to make new friends and meet up with other budding creatives.

'Taste of Art' sessions run during the school term and a detailed programme is released on this website.

Please bring an apron.
