A Taste of Art: Lino Print and Mixed Media Christmas Cards

The Old Courthouse Thirsk
Wednesday 20th November

With all materials included and each workshop suitable for beginners, our Wednesday morning Taste Of... sessions give the perfect introduction to a range of artistic styles and techniques.

Linocut is a printmaking technique and a variant of woodcut in which a sheet of linoleum is used for a relief surface. Within this workshop you will be creating a design that you will then cut out of the linoleum surface with a sharp knife, a V-shaped chisel or gouge, with the raised un-carved areas representing a mirror image of the parts to show printed.

You will be able to use your linocut to hand print onto a series of mixed media Cards. Another option can be to make a series of tags that you can attach on your gifts this Christmas. You will have complete control over the design of your cards or tags whilst learning a new printmaking technique you may not be familiar with.

Suitable For: All abilities.

Materials: All materials provided.

Description

'Taste of Art' workshops are creative sessions that are friendly, informal and good fun and aim to provide an introduction to a technique or art form. Lasting an hour and a half they are run by qualified tutors and artists and aim to give you an insight into a craft and inspire you to do more.

You don't have to be a creative person to take part as the sessions are aimed at all levels and the focus is on experimentation. Most of our sessions use materials and equipment that are accessible and low cost and we always try to provide ceramic activities that utilise our kiln.

'Taste Of Art' sessions will provide you with an opportunity to make new friends and meet up with other budding creatives.

'Taste of Art' sessions run during the school term and a detailed programme is released on this website.

Please bring an apron.
