A Taste of Art: Introduction to Reverse Applique

The Courthouse Thirsk
Wednesday 6th June

Reverse Applique is very similar to regular applique; the difference is that your applique accent fabric is behind your cut out, revealing instead your fabric choices through using cut out 'windows'. Within this workshop you are going to experiment using several layers of fabric to create your reverse applique textile designs, this will help create depth and texture with your selection of materials.

Within this workshop we will be inspired by the ornamental style of Art Nouveau, characterised by its use of long sinuous organic, asymmetrical line often taking the form of flower stalks and buds, vine tendrils, insect wings and other delicate natural objects.

Your textile piece can be made using a combination of machine and hand embroidery, it’s your choice.

All materials and equipment will be provided. Please feel welcome to bring along your own sewing machine if preferred.

Description

'Taste of Art' workshops are creative sessions that are friendly, informal and good fun and aim to provide an introduction to a technique or art form. Lasting an hour and a half they are run by qualified tutors and artists and aim to give you an insight into a craft and inspire you to do more.

You don't have to be a creative person to take part as the sessions are aimed at all levels and the focus is on experimentation. Most of our sessions use materials and equipment that are accessible and low cost and we always try to provide ceramic activities that utilise our kiln.

'Taste Of Art' sessions will provide you with an opportunity to make new friends and meet up with other budding creatives.

'Taste of Art' sessions run during the school term and a detailed programme is released on this website.

Please bring an apron.
