HELMSLEY Interpretation Boards

Helmsley in Bloom approached Rural Arts to provide artists to facilitate a series of intergenerational workshops for the community. The workshops were to provide the pictorial content of a series of interpretation boards to be sited on The Old Railway Line Conservation Project. The boards were to depict the history of the old railway itself, identify existing flora and fauna and detail plans for future work to take place on the conservation area.

The well attended open workshops were held in Helmsley Town Hall and children from the local primary school specifically invited. Using a variety of techniques, including photography, painting and drawing, the group created the necessary artwork under the guidance of a fine artist from Rural Arts.

Once the artwork was completed and local historians had provided the text for the boards the information was compiled and the final layout designed by Rural Arts' graphic designer.

The boards have been sited beside the footpath along the old railway line to provide information to locals and visitors.
