Book Making:
Make a personal book or; working in a group, produce a commemorative book or album for your community. A vast selection of different techniques can be used, including paper making, stitching, creative computers and printmaking. Additionally this workshop could be combined with other techniques such as photography, poetry, or creative writing.
Greetings Cards:
Make contemporary personal greeting cards for any occasion. Use a wide variety of techniques such as printmaking, stitching, beading, photocopying, stencilling and creative computers. Materials used could include handmade papers, card, textiles, metal foil or wire. All age groups will enjoy this workshop.
Newspaper Body Sculpture:
Take part in this hilarious workshop and use your own body as a mould to make a life sized sculpture using newspaper and parcel tape. This sessionis a great icebreaker for any event and is greatly enjoyed by children, young people and those with disabilities. The workshop can be tailor made to suit a particular occasion, for example village scarecrow festivals or be tied into a school curriculum.
Paper Mache:
Recycled paper pulp or torn newspaper and adhesive are very useful, and environmentally sound materials with which to make a wide variety of lightweight objects. Items created can range from large sculptural figures for processional use through to puppets and even Christmas tree decorations.
Paper Making:
Make paper from scratch using pulped recycled materials and natural items wuch as petals and leaves. The paper can then be printed using the techniques described in the printmaking section or used in most of the other techniques in this section.
Lino Printing:
Produce simple or complex designs by cutting a pattern into the surface of specially prepared lino. Oil or water based inks are then rolled over the surface and the piece in then inverted and printed onto paper or fabric to produce a single or series of prints. This process is suitable for making pictures, greetings cards and similar.
Mono Printing:
With this technique ink is rolled onto a sheet of perspex or glass and a design is worked directly into the surface of the ink and paper or fabric then applied to take a print. Participants can experiment by using different objects to scratch the design, for example combes, brushes or even pine cones and various hand make textured papers. This workshop is suitable for all ages, including very young children.
Fine Art:
The artists at Rural Arts can offer a wide range of drawing and painting workshops and courses aimed not only at beginners but also improvers. Sessions will be tailored to suit participants both children, young people and adults.
Drawing & Painting:
These workshops can include the use of pastels, pencils and charcoal, whle painting tutition available includes watercolour, oils and acrylics.
Graffiti Art:
Learn the highly stylised art of graffiti painting using text and illustration to create individual tags or colourful murals. Participants can work on their own boards or together to create a large scale group piece for permanent display. This technique involves the use of spray paints and a suitable outdoor space is needed in which to carry out the work.
Mural Painting:
Work as a group to design and paint a large scale permanent mural to decorate your nursery, school, club or village hall. The mural may be painted directly onto the wall or onto boards using acrylic paints. Subject manner is infinate - local history, favourite stories, self portraits or purely abstract.
