Creative IT

Digital Media:
Rural Arts have a suite of Mac laptop computers, scanners, printers, digital projector, cameras and video equipment with which to deliver our creative computer programme. The artists and practitioners working on the programme include graphic designers, web designers, animators, filmmakers and photographers. Workshops are tailor made to suit the ability and age of specific groups.

Animation:
This is a very popular workshop with young people - workshops can be developed for ages from primary upwards. We have a suite of MacBooks with professional animation software including Flash, Final Cut Pro and imovie. This is suitable for group sizes up to 10 people and projects could also include a projection of the completed work to involve a wider audience, animations can be put onto your website and will also be provided on a DVD.

Computer Graphics:
We offer varied workshops concerning publishing and design. Packages including InDesign, Illustrator and Photoshop. Students will gain knowledge of all programs, learn and develop an understanding of the topic and also how to prepare work for professional print. This workshop is aimed at those who know their way around the computer and want to explore layout and design. Students can develop their own individual projects which may include publicity material for their own or business use.

Web design:
From basic Dreamweaver training to projects which help you to create your own website which you will be
able to update into the future. Ideal for schools, community and youth groups and village halls - this can be expanded to incorporate Flash animation and interactive graphics.

Comics / Storyboards:
Storytelling can help individuals and communities find out who they are. The workshop will illustrate the broad groups of stories and be selected to meet the needs of the group. Participants will be encouraged to develop their own stories. A series of linked workshops would be aimed at establishing a group to look at aspects of their own local culture. Storytelling can be used in schools, for general entertainment or as an aid to reminiscence work.

Digital Photography:
Rural arts have a bank of digital cameras although we do encourage participants to bring along their own digital camera if they do have one. Again we can offer workshops to suit different skill levels from beginners to advanced.

Photoshop:
Our artists will guide participants through the various levels of this specialised photographic programme. Outcomes can vary from large format pictoral posters to small alterations on family photographs. The photoshop workshop works well alongside Digital Photography.

Website Design and Maintenance:
Learn how to create your own website - perfect for establishing your group’s identity online! Using image creation software such as Photoshop and web creation packages such as Dreamweaver, this workshop can take you through the initial stages, through creating links and inserting text and images, to uploading a complete website.
This workshop would work well in conjunction with Digital Photography and Creative Writing.

Film Making:
Ideal for a group project, this workshop gives hands-on experience using digital stills and video cameras and takes you through creating a narrative, shooting the film and ediitng workshops, using industry standard edit software Final Cut Pro. Films can be realised as DVD's and the sessions can include time with a graphic designer to create the full packaging for your project. This workshop should run as a series of sessions.

Mixed Digital Media Projects:
A very involved workshop that looks at several digital processes and can result in, for example, creating your own website that features both digital photography and video. Excellent from a group project that is looking to represent an idea in various forms. this workhsop needs to run over a series of workshop sessions and can incorporate graphic design and layout too. Rural Arts can supply all digital equipment.

Video Making:
Learn how to take great video records of events or create your own documentary piece. Rural Arts can provide digital video cameras that are easy to use and the edit software needed for you to learn how to edit and present your work.
