Interpretation

Rural Arts carries out projects with all kinds of groups and organisations to interpret and enhance local sites and attractions. Projects involve groups in providing the content for interpretation and information boards, for outdoor or indoor use. Usually intergenerational, this work can involve a large number of individuals in creating something that will inform future visitors to the site.
A project of this type allows the community to participate in the research and documentation of local history and environmental issues and gives children and young people, in particular, an opportunity to learn about their locality. The local community also benefits from being involved and having ownership in the creation of something permanent.

Interpretation Boards
Community groups can work with specialists, including local history experts, creative writers, artists and graphic designers, to produce the text and artwork for illustrated, informative interpretation boards.

Way-marked Walks
To enhance a local walk and inform visitors of that which may be
seen in the area, waymarkers can be created from mosaic, cast
metal, ceramic and carved stone as part of a community project.

Sculpture Trails
Site-specific, permanent or semi-permanent sculpture can be
produced, either through community consultation, or as a hands - on
group activity. Pieces may have an environmental theme, using
natural found materials, or be created from metal, stone, wood,
willow withies or ceramic.

Leaflets and Maps
Work with a graphic designer to produce material which will enhance a trail and inform visitors.
