The Arts Award is a national qualification which supports young people to develop as artists and arts leaders. Young people aged between 11-25 can achieve Bronze, Silver and Gold Arts Awards, equivalent to levels 1, 2 and 3 on the national qualifications framework.

Bronze Arts Award courses for 16 - 18 year olds who are not in education, employment or training [NEET] are available at centres in Scarborough, Malton, Thirsk, Selby and Harrogate.

There are four parts to a Bronze Arts Award:

Taking part in an arts activity This can be any arts or media activity which you enjoy and want to improve your skill and extend your interest in

Going to arts events You must attend at least one arts event. Record your views, collect programmes and other information and share these with others

Arts heroes and heroines Which artist or arts practitioner do you admire? Research the story of his or her artistic career

Arts apprenticeship Share your skills by helping to run a workshop, or performing / presenting to a group

You need to collect and record evidence of everything you do along the way.

A new 5 day course for artists who teach, or would like to get involved in Lifelong Learning
.
This course leads to a VRQ Preparing to Teach in the Lifelong Learning Sector (PTLLS) qualification, now a requirement for all those who are new to teaching, training or tutoring on publicly funded courses. It also forms the first step towards a Level 3/4 Certificate in Teaching in the Lifelong Learning Sector.

The Science City York Micro Business Grant

This grant provides up to £500 on a matched-funding basis to young creative, science and technology based businesses located in York and North Yorkshire. The grant can be used for any purpose which will help your business to survive or grow. The application process is simple and a decision will be made within 7 days.
 
So if your business meets the following criteria:  

Creative, science or technology based
Located in York or North Yorkshire
Trading for less than 18 months
Has not already received significant public or private sector funding

This is a matched-funding award where the business is required to contribute at least 50% of the costs. The scheme is open to businesses operating as sole traders, partnerships or limited companies.

Science City York provides support to technology-based businesses in York and North Yorkshire, and promotes three technology business clusters: Bioscience York, Creative York, and IT & Digital York. It was established in 1998 as a partnership between the City of York Council and the University of York, and is supported by Yorkshire Forward and Business Link.

Call for Entries

The Festival comprises twelve genres:

Fiction/Drama, Documentary, Comedy, Horror, Sci-Fi, Animation, Computer Graphics (CGI),
Music Video, Environment, Sport, Travel, Religion

Many entries will be eligible in more than on genre: a cartoon, for example, could qualify for entry in both the animation and the comedy genres.

Films may also be entered in four prestigious Best of Festival categories:

Best Short-Film, Best Individual Performance, Best Score/Soundtrack, Best Special Effects

Your film is eligible if it has an all-inclusive playing time of between three and fifteen minutes, has never been available on general release, and was made in the last fifty years.

To enter you will require a URL - at Chew TV, Vimeo.com, YouTube.com, Metacafe, etc. - where your film can be viewed by our adjudicators.
